Arizona Trip Part 4

Arizona Trip Part 4

This will be my last post on our Arizona trip with pictures from our explorations around Flagstaff.

One day we took the pups to downtown Flagstaff. We stopped to take a picture along Route 66.

We walked around a bit and stopped at the Sweet Shoppe Candy Store. I left David, Gus, and Kat outside and as I walked into the store, one of the employees approached me to let me know the store is dog and husband friendly! So Kat and Gus got to go in and eye the delicious looking chocolates.

After going inside the candy store, Gus thought he should go inside every store. There is a crystal store next to an intersection and as we waited for the light to change so we could cross the street, he really wanted to go in the store. I did not think that would be a good idea!

We also visited Sunset Crater National Monument. It is a site where a volcano erupted about 1000 years ago. It is amazing how there is still no vegetation and the lava flows were very impressive.

After Sunset Crater, we drove further north to Wupatki National Monument. It has several Pueblo settlement sites and visitors are allowed to go inside some of them. It was very interesting.

The final national monument we visited was Walnut Canyon. After seeing the Grand Canyon, this canyon was not as impressive, but it was still very pretty and large. One thing we noticed about Northern Arizona was the vast array of geology. From the red rocks of Sedona, the volcanic rocks of Sunset Crater, forest, desert, and canyons, there is so much variability in a small area.

Another thing we did while in Flagstaff was visit restaurants we saw on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. That turned out to be a good idea as we had some good food. We really enjoyed the Mexican food at Salsa Brava and pizza from Fat Olives. Gus also enjoyed pizza from Fat Olives.

We really had a great trip and Flagstaff was the perfect area to have a vacation where almost all time is spent outdoors during this time when we have to stay distanced from others. We came home with some tired puppies, so it was a success!
