Arizona Trip Part 1

Arizona Trip Part 1

Over the past few years, we’ve started a tradition each winter of taking the pups somewhere to play in the snow. We’ve gone to Colorado and New Mexico. This year we decided to go to Flagstaff, Arizona. For some reason I thought Arizona was much further away, but it was actually the same duration of drive as going to Steamboat in Colorado.

We rented a condo for a week and headed out.

We got a little over an hour down the road and I realized I forgot our National Parks annual pass, so we had to turn around and go home. That made our first day a much longer trip. Luckily two dogs had a comfy ride and didn’t mind.

Our first stop was in Albuquerque where we spent the night. We stayed at a Best Western. They had special dog rooms without carpet and with dog beds and treats. Nice!

The next day, before we hit the road, we stopped for donuts at Rebel Donut. They were really good donuts and they even had dog donuts, so everyone got something.

Next, we went to the restaurant that “starred” in Breaking Bad as Los Pollos Hermanos. It’s really called Twisters. David got a breakfast burrito there. He said it was pretty good. Because of COVID, it is only open for drive-thru, so we couldn’t go in an pose in the booth that Walter White sat in.

Finally we made it to Arizona!

Gus was excited.

We had some time before we could check into our condo, so we stopped at Petrified Forest National Park on our way to Flagstaff. I didn’t really know what to expect, but the petrified wood was really pretty. We did a roughly two-mile hike where there were many petrified logs leading up to a house made of petrified wood.

Kat and Gus became Bark Rangers at Petrified Forest, but Gus almost failed. The rules are to not take anything with you from the park, but Gus found a chunk of grass and was determined to take it home with him.

Luckily he dropped it before we got back to the car and didn’t have his Bark Ranger badge revoked!

Finally we made it to Flagstaff and we were greeted with snow!

Stay tuned for more photos from our trip!
