Meet Ollie!

I was gone for three weeks for trial. I was so ready to be home and was pleasantly surprised that Milton seemed to remember me, even though he had lived longer at our house without me than with me!

The day after I got home, the five of us loaded up in the Tacoma and headed to Fort Worth to pick up our newest addition, Ollie the Airstream!

We ordered Ollie back in May, but he arrived at the dealership while I was away. It was perfect timing because I wouldn’t have had time for camping any earlier in the summer anyway. Ollie is a Caravel 22FB. He’s on the small side and we picked the floor plan before we knew we would have three dogs, but we are making it work. We decided on the name Ollie as a tribute to Steve. Steve’s middle name was Oliver. We are sad that Steve isn’t able to make memories with us in Ollie, but at least he’s in our thoughts.

We took Ollie out for the first family camping trip to Canyon of the Eagles park outside Burnet, Texas. Three pups had to adjust to being on tie outs.

The park had some nice hiking trails and we took advantage of them.

The problem with the trails was that there were lots of sticker burrs and they stuck to puppy paws. For some reason, Kat had the hardest time with them, perhaps because she’s not as light on her feet as Milton and Gus. After one particularly bad stretch where we stopped every few feet to pick something out of her paws, I ended up picking her up and carrying her for about half a mile until we got to the road. She hates being picked up, so she was happy when we reached the road and took the road back to the campsite instead of the trail.

It was a successful first trip. We learned how to keep bugs out of the trailer after having a bunch of them in there the first night. We also let the dogs figure out their sleeping arrangements (Gus on the bed, Kat on the dinette, Milton on the floor but only because he can’t jump on the bed yet).

It seems like the pups enjoy camping, but Gus’s favorite part is hanging out inside the Airstream. He is just not an outside dog!!
