2017 Cruise #2 - Eclipse Day!

The only reason we ended up going on a second cruise in a single year was because in early June, I discovered that Royal Caribbean was rearranging the itinerary for Oasis of the Seas so that the ship would be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. Since David and I were already planning to travel somewhere for the eclipse (Nashville, specifically), we decided to modify our travel plans to be on the cruise.

Royal Caribbean pulled out all the stops to make sure the eclipse was celebrated in style. They hired DNCE and Bonnie Tyler to perform. I'm not a fan of either (in fact, I didn't know who DNCE was), but we still enjoyed the concert.

Right after the concert, we headed up to Deck 16 to get a good spot for eclipse viewing. It's amazing that a ship with 6500 passengers doesn't feel that crowded, even when everyone is in one spot. I was also glad to see that a lot of the staff was able to take a break and see the eclipse.

Eclipse ready! This was a difficult selfie as I could not see the screen when trying to take it.

The eclipse was really cool. We had a few high clouds but we were still able to see the totality and the diamond ring effect. We were both really happy to have seen it.

After the eclipse, we did some relaxing by the pool, followed by dinner at Giovanni's Table. We didn't enjoy Giovanni's as much on Oasis as we did on Liberty. The waiter we had on Liberty was really good and it seems like that made a big difference.

We ended the evening with the Oasis of Dreams show in the Aquatheater. The gymnasts, divers, and swimmers were all really good. This was another show that I have no idea about the story line, but the tricks that they did were enjoyable so it didn't really matter.

On this trip, I paid for internet access because things were pretty busy at work. I don't think I'll be able to avoid paying for the internet on future trips. It was really nice to be able to check in with the pups.
