Row, row, row your boat

Last weekend, Mom and Dad took us canoeing on the James River. We hadn't been on a boat since last summer when we went to the lake in Missouri. This was a lot different. The boat was smaller, we were on a river, and the boat went a lot slower too.

Even though the boat was slower, we still had to wear our life jackets. Safety first, pups! When we got to the river to launch our journey, Steve and I couldn't wait to get in the river. We barely stopped to pose for a picture. Mom though we were so good because we immediately jumped into the canoe, but then she decided we weren't so good because we immedately jumped out the other side and into the water!

Steve and I swam along the shore for a bit, pulling the canoe along with us since we were attached to Mom and Dad. Unfortunately, we pulled the canoe backwards. After a minute or two, Mom convinced me to jump into the canoe and Dad picked up Steve and put him in the canoe too. (Maybe that's why we had to wear our life jackets... they have handles!) After we got into the canoe, Mom and Dad paddled hard to get the canoe facing the right direction.

At first, we didn't know what to think and we didn't want to sit down. We went from one side of the canoe to the other, looking out. Mom and Dad had to shift their weight to balance out our movements, but we never tipped over, so that was good, at least according to Mom.

Eventually we decided that staring at the water wasn't all that exciting and we laid down.

Every so often, Steve stuck his paw into the water, trying to see if he could touch the bottom. If he couldn't, he stayed in the boat, but if he could, he jumped out. Once we stopped for a swim. I jumped out of the canoe in the middle of the river and pulled the canoe to shore so Steve could jump out when he could touch. Mom and Dad were impressed that I can still pull while swimming!

I'm not sure if you can tell, but I was the captain of the boat.

All in all, it was a fun day on the water. Mom thought it could have been a disaster, but it wasn't so we might go again!
